For the last 50 years, Burnsville hosts its annual Fire Muster festival. Sept. 8-12, 2015 they will “bring the community of Burnsville together” with something for everyone: carnival, kids’ events, car show, music, emergency and safety demonstrations, wine and beer tasting, a fire truck parade and more. “In 2004, the Fire Muster’s Fire Truck parade was cited in the Guinness Book of World Records for holding the longest Fire Truck Parade in the World. Over 120 trucks were represented in that parade.”
Events run at all different times each day; please review the events pages for what’s going on at the time you’d like to attend. Throughout the festival, there’s plenty to eat; you can easily make a three-course meal! Fireworks caps off the event Sept. 12 at 9:45 p.m. at Civic Center Park, Nicollet Avenue & 130th St.
How did the Fire Muster get started? According to history, “During the late 1970s, Burnsville resident and fire equipment collector Roger Jackson and some of his friends entertained children each summer by displaying his collection at what then known as Diamondhead Mall, capping the day with a short parade of equipment down Nicollet Avenue.” It became so popular that in the 1980s it became a citywide celebration.
A Fire Muster Button is needed to gain entrance into the Civic Center Park if arriving after 5 p.m. on either Friday or Saturday evening. You can purchase one for $5 or 3 for $10 at the gate or several locations around town.
